Hi

When I issue a banner motd command and type a message , only the first 3 letters of my message appear how do I get the entire message to be displayed

Are you sure you are using the delimiting character correct way?

your Delimiting character is must be the 4th char in your mssg and therefore only first three char are displayed in routes banner. pl use some special char as Delimiting character such as $ or # those are not included in msg. the Delimiting character is nothing but char which indicats start and end of your msg.
