Router cannot ping its gi0/0 interface?

Hey Guys,

I have replaced my gateway router (public edge of our network) with a 3825 Cisco Router but I cannot ping its own gi0/0 interface?

I am pasting the ip route statements that I had in my old router which was a 2621 and this same was copied in the 3825 router. the gi0/0 interface is a public one and it can ping other IPs from the same public subnet but not its own interface. I have sone other issues with it which i beleive might be connected to this fact as well.

here is the ip route and te Interface configs:

interface GigabitEthernet0/0

description To Office FastEthernet

ip address x.x.x.x 255.255.255.0

ip verify unicast reverse-path

no ip redirects

no ip unreachables

duplex auto

speed auto

media-type rj45

standby 1 ip x.x.x.x

standby 1 timers 5 15

standby 1 preempt

standby 1 authentication gmac

standby 1 track Serial0/0/0

!

and the IP route statments:

ip route 10.1.1.0 255.255.255.0 x.x.x.x THE FIREWALL IP ADSRESS, FROM THE SAME PUBLIC SUBNET

ip route 10.1.1.0 255.255.255.0 GigabitEthernet0/0 - REPEATED USING THE GI0/0 INTERFACE

ip route 10.1.2.0 255.255.255.0 X.X.X.X THE FIREWALL IP ADSRESS, FROM THE SAME PUBLIC SUBNET

ip route 10.1.4.0 255.255.255.0 X.X.X.X THE FIREWALL IP ADSRESS, FROM THE SAME PUBLIC SUBNET

ip route 10.1.4.0 255.255.255.0 GigabitEthernet0/0

ip route X.X.X.X 255.255.255.255 Serial0/0/0

ip route X.X.X.X - SAME PUBLIC SUBNET OR NETWORK Null0

I HAVE REMOVED THE REAL IPs.

please see if i have missed anything.

thank you very much.

Re: Router cannot ping its gi0/0 interface?

Hi,

The configuration on the interface seems OK. Can you ping the standby IP ?

Check the " Show interface gig 0/0 ", what does it say ?
