I have 3640 nad 2610 routers in my LAN and these routers show the Old date n time (somethin like March 1993 year) after reload. so i need to set it manually using ClOCK SET command. After that if router reloads again , then again it looses current date and time , n shows the older date.
This is'nt a problem. whenever the router/switch is rebooted/reloaded it takes the clock when the IOS was compiled. so every time u need to set it manually only. if u don't want to do it manually then u have to use NTP ( Network time protocol) server.
router/switch do not store date/time set because it does not contain CMOS like battery as seen in normal PC.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
