Router comes back with the rommon >1 prompt after a power failure !

Hi ...

I have a Cisco 1601 Router which connects our Campus to the Internet via a E1 digital Leased line.

This Router takes is powered using an APC Smart UPS system

Unfortunatelly I cannot monitor the UPS in order to perform a proper shutdown for the router . The result is that the router suddenly goes OFF whenever the UPS shuts it self down.

Whenever the power is restored , the router boots up with the rommon prompt causing us to lose connectivity with the Internet where someone must be there in order to shut down the router ( using its power swith) and then when it boots again , this time it shows the real boot sequence with Internet connectivity restored.

I really do not know why is this happening and how to solve this repetitive problem .

Lots of thanks

make sure your config register is set to 0x2102 you can check this by doing a sh ver

bottom line will show you

Configuration register is 0x2102

you can change it by

router#(conf)config-register 0x2102

Do you have any spare flash you can swap out to see if maybe something is wrong with the flash due to the power failure?

Hi ...

I am afraid that this is the only router of its kind in our site so there is no spare flash card to try out.

In any case , we are moving to a new campus within the next few months so I am going to order a new router to be used there .

Frankly speaking , I will choose a Cisco model but which one would fit best is a big question for me.

I need a router which could support at least 4 DMZs , 2 GB interfaces , 4 10/100 Interfaces and could go upto a 12 Mbps Internet speed .

Would you help me make my choice here please ?

Thanks
