router config for dhcp server

Hi,

We were asked to run multiple DHCP segments on a single server. I then configured the router using the ip address-helper x.x.x.x command on the interface where it is assigned the VLAN2 but we could not get any IP address. am i missing any command/s?

Re: router config for dhcp server

Hi,

It would be nice if you could provide the router configuration and setup details.

If you have properly configured the DHCP scope in your DHCP server and configured the ip helper-address in the router, this should work.

However have a look at this URL and refer to the section "Problems Forwarding BOOTP and Other UDP Broadcasts".

Hope this helps..

Re: router config for dhcp server

the config is just standard, ip on each interface and a cable was connected to a switch. Also, the DHCP is working on the same interface that the ip address-helpder was issued but i still cannot get any other ip from different segment

Re: router config for dhcp server

Hi,

It would be nice if you have posted the config that you have tried.

However here is what the setup should look like for this to work..

1) Ensure that the Scope for the different ip subnets are properly configured in the DHCP Server

2) If the DHCP Server is located in say vlan X and if you want the PC's on vlan Y and Vlan Z to get ip from the dhcp server, you should place the command "ip helper-address " under the vlan y and vlan z interface..Not on Vlan X.

This will enable the router to forward the DHCP request packet (broadcasts) originating from vlan y and vlan z to the DHCP server on vlan X.

Hope this Helps..
