Router connected to ISP (ADSL). ISP is assigning IP address through DHCP. When lease is expired, the router doesn't get a renew

the problem is that when the external interface starts up it

gets an ip address from the isp's DHCP server but when the lease time

expires it will loose the ip address and shut down the interface.

Re: Router connected to ISP (ADSL). ISP is assigning IP address

What's wrong will depend on what the

router is, what version of code it is

at, and whether or not it is sending

a DHCPREQUEST when the lease is about

to expire. What should happen is that

the client sends a DHCPREQUEST when

the lease is about to expire, and the

DHCP server responds with an address

in the DHCPACK. Since I'm not sure

what platform you are using, search on

CCO for DHCP troubleshooting to take

this further; if this is IOS, you can

have a look at "debug dhcp".
