I am receiving the following errors, Total output drops and interface broadcasts in the text below.

Broadcast queue 0/2400, broadcasts sent/dropped 28835/0, interface broadcasts 5

Last input 00:00:00, output 00:00:00, output hang never

Last clearing of "show interface" counters 00:27:28

Input queue: 0/75/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 318

Queueing strategy: weighted fair

Output queue: 0/1000/1024/318 (size/max total/threshold/drops)

Conversations 0/42/1024 (active/max active/max total)

Reserved Conversations 0/0 (allocated/max allocated)

Available Bandwidth 1155 kilobits/sec

5 minute input rate 267000 bits/sec, 345 packets/sec

5 minute output rate 1258000 bits/sec, 597 packets/sec

565751 packets input, 53502978 bytes, 0 no buffer

Received 12554 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles

0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored, 0 abort

963873 packets output, 235155920 bytes, 0 underruns

0 output errors, 0 collisions, 0 interface resets

0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out

0 carrier transitions

I have played with WFQ and input and output buffers but am unsure as to the appropriate way to resolve the errors. The problem we are having are periodic drops of telnet sessions at some of our remote sites. Thanks

Try the following URL 'Troubleshooting Output Drops with Priority Queuing' -

How big is the pipe and what is your CIR. From this output it looks like your access circuit is pretty heavily utilized.

Out put drops are not necessarily a bad thing. The amount of drops you have is not that many considering the amount of traffic.

Also the only traffic that is going to be dropped from the quueue is traffic that is processed switched . Do you have Cef are fast switching disabled ?

The pipe size is a full T and since this is the head router in our config the CIR is the full T. I am unclear as to your question "Do you have Cef are fast switching disabled ?" Can you elaborate? Thanks

do a 'sh ip cef' or 'sh ip route-cache'

do you have 'no ip-route-cache' or 'no ip route-cache cef' command under any subinterfaces.

Are your telnet sessions dropping to 1 site or multiple sites ?

What is the size of the PVC's at the remote sites ? Could they be exceeding CIR ?

The load interval you have configured is over a 5 minute average. under your physical interface configure the command 'load-interval 30 ' This will calcualte the load over a 30 sec interval.

OK, sh ip cef shows CEF not running.

None of the interfaces on the routers have the no ip route-cache or no ip route-cache cef statements.

telnet is dropping at multiple sites but not all sites

The PVC sizes are 512, 256, 56 with CIRs of 16 through 64

Could you be exceeding CIR at these sites ?

It is possible but the errors are occurring at the central router not at the remote site routers.

each PVC has a CIR end to end If you are exceeding it at the hub the drops will show on the hub side

The next time you see telnet sessions drop check your utilization see if your T1 is over utilized

Thanks, I will do that
