Router loses NVRAM settings on restart/cold boot

Model: C2600

IOS Ver: 12.0

This is a router which has just been put online after sitting idle for at least a year. After configuration (including "wr mem") everything works fine until a "restart" command is issued or a power-down cold boot occurs. After that, the router always enters the "initial configuration dialog" mode. If you say "No" to the prompt, you get a vanilla "Router" prompt and must reenter all config commands. Clearly, this is an inconvenience ;->

Has anyone seen this behaviour before, and can you advise what the recommended resolution is?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Dave.

Sounds like the config registery is set wrong. Do a "show ver" and if its at 0x2142 then the router is configured to ignore the startup config.

If this is the case then do.

router# config t

router(config)#config-register 0x2102

router(config)#end

router#wr mem

At the next reload the new settings will take affect.

It looks like that was the problem -- THANKS!!
