Router notification

Hi,

Could a Cisco router send a notification to a user without using CiscoWorks if one of its serial interface goes down?

I know that from the router console, there is message indicating what interface has gone down but this requires the user to console or telnet to the router.

Could the user immediately be informed that the serial interface of the router goes down without referring to the router console? Can the router alert the user by emitting some sound?

Thanks,

delon

Re: Router notification

Delon,

You could log these link up/down messages to either local router log/ syslog / trapd facility to alert users of this link up/down activity. Here is a link discussing logging and logging levels more.

Re: Router notification

You will need some tools which poll the router interface up/down status either by ping or snmp or you can use logging as told above.
