Routing design

We have approximately 34 field sites, 9 cluster sites off of frame relay connections and 6 individual sites off isdn connections. They come in through 3640 routers-one for isdn and one for frame relay. Those routers come to a switch that either forwards them to the LANs core 6509 or out through the firewall to the internet. Currently they are mostly running static routes with the main routers here at the headquarters also running rip. We would like to convert to either ospf or eigrp. I am trying to determine which one to go with. Can anyone point me in the right direction? We also have about 13 vlans within the LAN that need to be "routed".

Thank you,

Paula

Paula,

You'll have two camps here with this answer.

1. OSPF - Standards based, not as many IOS defects, much harder to administer and troubleshoot.

2. EIGRP - CIsco specific (non standard), Easy to implement / manage (caveat this by saying it does not scale as nicely as a well designed OSPF network)

So, if you have or plan to have any non-cisco devices OSPF is your match. If you have a feeling this might be operationaly hard to adminster then EIGRP might be right for you if you are a Cisco shop.

Hope this helps you,

Don
