Routing Module for Catalyst 6006

Dear Cisco Representative,

I have 4 cisco switches 6006 switches with Supervisory module (WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE) and daughter card (WS-F6020A). As far as I have researched, this card does not support routing and I would have to get MSFC based card.

Can I install WS-F6K-MSFC2 daughter card on WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE?

Do I have to replace WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE with WS-X6K-S1A-MSFC2?

Can I just add Sup. II module WS-X6K-S2-MSFC2?

First solution sounds the cheapest, but I am not sure if it is going to meet my 'routing' needs. Please advise me on this matter.

Thank you.

Re: Routing Module for Catalyst 6006

You have a Supervisor 1A with a Layer-2 Switching Engine II. Neither an MSFC or MSFC2 can be installed on this Supervisor. You used to be able to purchase an MSM module that is a Router card for a Catalyst 6000 (similar to a Catalyst 5000 RSM), unfortunately this is now end-of-life and the only router-engine available for the Catalyst 6000 is the MSFC or the MSFC2.

You will need to replace your Supervisor 1A for either a Supervisor 1A with PFC and MSFC/MSFC2 (WS-X6K-SUP1A-MSFC/WS-X6K-SUP1A-MSFC2) or a Supervisor 2 with PFC2 and MSFC2 (WS-X6K-SUP2-MSFC2).

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks. Even though it means extra 15,000$ it does answer my question. I appreciate your time.
