RPS 675 Behavior?

Hi

The customer bought a few 3750 switches with RPS 675.

Testing shows when 3750 AC is off, RPS can take over.

When 3750 AC is back, it will not use back AC automatically.

The RPS 'standby/active' LED will blink amber, and we have to press 'standby/active' to rest the status.

However the switch will reboot!

The RPS user guide does give a confirmed description on the right behavior.

Anyone got better docu?

This behaviour is per design. RPS provides backup from AC to DC but not from DC to AC.

Note : The RPS 675 is designed to provide backup for internal power supply failures of connected device power supplies. It is not designed to act as a backup power source that protects against losses of power due to external power outages. We recommend using an uninterruptable power system (UPS) as protection against power outages.

As per design to cover internal power supply failures only, there was no intention to provide DC to AC automatic backup avoiding reset of the switch as switch should have been replaced anyway when there is internal power failure.

Hence, when the AC power is back up, you will need to physically press the standby/active button on the RPS. This may cause the switch to reboot. When the switch reboots and comes back up, it will start using the AC power supply.

Hi Omar,

This behavior is specific to the RPS675, so any switch platforms that support the RPS675 will have the same behavior.

I have two catalyst 3560 both connected to RSP (both with the same IOS), one of them works fine after press standy/active button on the RPS but the other works on the same way, that lines above its mentioned.

So why one it works fine and the other not, maybe Its a problem on power supply on switch
