RSPAN on Catalyst 3548XL

How can I create RSPAN between two 3548 switches, which is in different VTP domain? Both switches have 12.0(5)WC9a on them and support "port monitor..." interface command.

Is it possible to create RSPAN between two different type of switches? If so how can I do that? What are the requirements? Thank you.

Regards,

Santi

RSPAN is not supported in any of the XL switches, 2900XL/3500XL. You need at least a 2950:

Please note that 2950 is not the same as 2900XL or 3500XL.

Hi Roberto:

Does "Reflector Port" have to be empty, nothing connects to the port?

Yes, Reflector port has to be empty. There should not be anything connected to it.

HTH, Please rate if it does.

Hi Amit,

Do I have to assign reflector port to a special VLAN ID (Remote Span VLAN), and allow this VLAN traffic through the trunk?

Hi Santi,

No You dont have to put the reflector port in any vlan. Just assign any port as a reflector port and it will not longer be a part of any vlan.
