RTD-1-ADDR_FLAP:

I am getting the following syslog message continuously.

RTD-1-ADDR_FLAP: FastEthernet0/14 relearning 6 addrs per min

This port is connected to a server.

The configuration of the port is

interface FastEthernet0/14

description "CONNECTED TO BACKUP SERVER"

duplex full

speed 100

switchport access vlan 2

end

Can anyone let me know why it is learning 6 addresses eventhough it is connected to a server.

Re: RTD-1-ADDR_FLAP:

All that message means in that it is seeing the same mac address on another port also. Normally this is a spanning tree issue but if it is connected to a server then the server is doing something bad. Since the comment is BACKUP SERVER it depends on what this means. I have seen some of the backup methods that share a mac address. If the backup server were to send any traffic at all with that mac address while it was being used by the primary you will get this type of error.

Re: RTD-1-ADDR_FLAP:

Is the server configured for 100 Full or auto? Are you taking errors on the interface?

I am looking at a possible speed duplex issue?

Also, do you have the server configured for trunking?

And, is this the only connection for that server?

What is the utilization of that port? I am guessing it is high because it is a backup server?
