Rancid (Really Awesome New Cisco confIg Differ) is, in fact, really awesome. Run it from cron on any of the popular Unix and Unix-like OSs, it downloads configs, stores them in CVS, and emails the diffs for any changed configs.
It supports IOS, CatOS, PIX, Juniper, HP Procurve, Foundry, Redback, and Extreme devices.
You could use a DOS command tool called WRNET which is freeware and works well as long as you have SNMP enabled on your devices. Use this in a sheduled batch job and you can back up your configs nightly/weekly.
