sc0 interface & Catalyst 6500

I have a 6500 with an sc0 interface that is addressed with a 77.x.x.x address. Is this an internal Cisco thing (similar to how Microsoft has the auto address of 169.254.x.x)??

Thanks!!

This is not an internal Cisco thing. Out of the box, sc0 does not have an ip address associated with it.

Re: sc0 interface & Catalyst 6500

Hi LLoyd,

There is no ip address on SC0 interfaces on cat6k switch and nothing is internal to Cisco.

The switch comes with no ip address on it and default to vlan 1.

If you want to assign or change any existing ip address on sc0 interface the command will be

set interface sc0

By default it is default vlan 1 but incase if you want your SC0 interface which is a management interface to be in some other vlan you can assign that vlan number out there.

Thanks guys...that's kinda what I was thinking but the first octet of 77 in this address threw me off. Looks like someone must have set this address manually.

Thanks guys!!

What's interesting is that when you perform a WHOIS on 77.1.1.X, it comes up as reserved (similar output when performing a WHOIS on 172.16.0.0).

Just an FYI...any thoughts are appreciated.
