secondary interface

HI ALL!

why & where we use secondary ip address in the same interface.

int f0/0

ip address x.x.x.x x.x.x.x secondary

ip address y.y.y.y y.y.y.y

One reason i can think of is that if u had segmented u r LAN in two networks or subnets so to communicate between them u can use secondry address on u r router.And if u r in a process of IP Address migration u can use secondry address.

ali you can also you secondary ip address when you are going to migrate form one protocol to other...and also in ip address migration...

Hi

Just to add on do remember that neither eigrp nor ospf forms adjacencies with the secondary ip address.

it will create neighbors only with the primary ip address space..
