secondary ip address

What is the concept of secondary ip address , and in which all

situations are we using it?

Re: secondary ip address

It allows multiple IP subnetworks to exist on the same Layer 2 segment. From one host to another, even on the same Layer 2 segment, it is still required to go to the router. Reasons for use:

1. Depletion of IP addresses on a given segment that needs more.

2. Network migration from one IP range to another.

3. Design requrements.

and I am sure there are more.

Hope this helps,

Don
