Serial number discrepancy on 4912

The serial number reported through SNMP is different than the sticker on the outside of the unit. Which is authoritative?

Have a look at: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/477/SNMP/chassis.shtml which will clear up things for you.

Re: Serial number discrepancy on 4912

For the CAT4003/2948G/2980/4912, the serial number displayed in sh ver/snmp is that of the Supervisor engine. For Cisco Service contracts/entitlement, the chassis serial number(found on sticker) is the authorative one.

If you have a CAT4006, you can do a sh sprom chassis to get the serial number. Also in 6.3(x) and later, CAT4006 serial number can be obtained from sh ver
