Server VLAN's

Are there any recommendations for the maximum number of servers in a VLAN?

Re: Server VLAN's

Basically no, it depends entirely on traffic volumes and, possibly, addressing constraints.

Re: Server VLAN's

I agree with the other reply. It completely depends on traffic type and server/client functions. If you are running application servers that your clients are constantly banging on, then you would want to have a lower number of servers in each VLAN. But if you just have a bunch of print servers or file sharing servers, then you could put a ton of them out there and be alright. It also does depend slightly on your architecture. There is a big difference between having a server farm plugged into a Cat6500 on a single VLAN that is fibered back to user switches versus having multiple Cisco2924s with servers plugged into them all on a single VLAN that have 100mb connections back to a user switch.

Basically what you have to take into account is traffic flow and traffic type and then come up with a design that fits.
