service-module t1 fdl ansi? FrATM? no keepalives?

Hello all,

I've turned up scores of frame-relay circuits, normally with the following configuration for my Serial Interface:

----------------------------

!

interface Serial0

no ip address

encapsulation frame-relay IETF

no fair-queue

service-module t1 timeslots 1-24

frame-relay lmi-type ansi

!

interface Serial0.1 point-to-point

ip address 1.1.1.2 255.255.255.252

frame-relay interface-dlci 16

------------------------------

However, I was recently setting up an edge router running a frame-relay circuit that was provided by a "mom and pop" ISP. My Layer 1 was just fine, however I was never recieving any LMI. The ISP turn up engineer insisted that this was a Frame over ATM setup and that I could not use a standard configuration. After working with him for a few minutes, I was able to get it up and running. The circuit did not seem to work unless I added the commands that I've denoted with an '*'

-------------------------------

interface Serial0/0

no ip address

encapsulation frame-relay IETF

no ip mroute-cache

* no keepalive

service-module t1 timeslots 1-24

* service-module t1 fdl ansi

frame-relay lmi-type ansi

!

interface Serial0/0.1 point-to-point

ip address 1.1.1.2 255.255.255.0

frame-relay interface-dlci 16

--------------------------------

Also, If I do a sh frame lmi, I receive NO output.

Has anybody seen/done a circuit similar to this? The ISP engineer was saying that its frame-relay being encapsulated by ATM or some such madness...the only FrATM I'm aware of is a conversion from Frame to ATM at the core. Why would I have to disable keepalives? I'm just very interested as to exactly what type of circuit this is.

Thanks in advance!

This looks like a specific configuration for the ISP. I haven't come across this kind of config.
