setup with hsrp and dhcp server on same LAN

I have two 2800 series routers on the same LAN configured with HSRP.

I have configured the primary router as dhcp server :

ip dhcp pool pool1

network 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.192

dns-server 212.89.10.45

domain-name study.co.dr

default-router 10.10.10.1

lease 0 6

ip dhcp excluded-address 10.10.10.1

ip dhcp excluded-address 10.10.10.2

ip dhcp excluded-address 10.10.10.3

Can I configure the same on the secondary router?

As both routers are in the same lan, they will receive both the "DHCPDISCOVER broadcast message".

My question is, imagine that Primary router act as DHCP server for request from HostA. Can Backup router also act as DHCP server for request from HostB? (think so). Is there a risk to assign same ip address as the one already assigned by primary router to hostA ?

Please give me you input.

thanks,

cisand

Re: setup with hsrp and dhcp server on same LAN

Howdy,

The Cisco IOS DHCP server will ping a pool address before assigning it to a client. Therefore, you should not get a situation where two DHCP servers hand out the same address. By default, it will ping twice to check whether the address is in use. You can configure the number of pings sent using:

ip dhcp ping packets

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.
