SFP Module Keepalives?

I read this note from Cisco...

"The switch sends keepalive messages (to ensure the connection is up) only on interfaces that do not have small form-factor pluggable (SFP) modules."

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6406/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00805a762d.html

My question is this...

I have a 2960G switch, which has four "dual" interfaces. You either have a choice to use the SFP module, or a regular CAT5 cable for each of those interfaces.

If you use the CAT5 (RJ45) port instead of the SFP module, will it send keepalive messages?

Re: SFP Module Keepalives?

this is correct.

if you use the RJ-45 port, then your STP keepalives will be sent.

perhaps due to the SFP is expected to be used as a TRUNK/UPLINK therefore using BPDUs and not keepalives. still researching why.....will post when i find why.

Re: SFP Module Keepalives?

oops..meant keepalives will be sent. (not stp keepalives)

stp uses BPDU's and these will also be sent.
