SHARING T1 CSU/DSU

I have 2 seperate sites using T1-wic w/ external csu/dsu and are terminated to a bellsouth flexserv at corporate. The flexserv allow voice and data to be carried over the the T1s. From the flexserv, the data portion will be combined and connected to a single 2600 w/T1 CSU/DSU using seperate timeslots at corporate. Site 1 will use 8 timeslots (data channels) and Site 2 will use the remaining 16 time slots.

To maintain proper routing, can I use subinterfaces on the s0/0 of the 2600 router and still assign timeslots to each subinterfaces on the corporate router?

Which WIC do you have?

WIC-1DSU-T1 does not support "shared access"

VWIC-2MFT-T1 supports shared access, data only

VWIC-2MFT-T1-DI supports shared access Data & Voice

What you are trying to do would require a "channalized" T-1 interface.

If you have that interface, you assign a subinterface to each of the 2 groups of timeslots.

If you do not have a channalized T-1 interface, you could use a drop and insert T-1 CSU/SDSU to terminate one et of channels, then pass the other set to the internal CSU/DSU. The External CSU/DSU would be connected to a serial WIC.

If you have a channelized serial interface on your 2600 then you will have 2 separate serial interfaces and may not need subinterfaces. Subinterfaces on serial interfaces are most often used with frame relay deployments.

With a channelized card you will have 2 interfaces such as:

interface Serial 0/0:1

interface Serial 0/0:2

where the number after the colon designates the channel-group number.
