'show buffers input-interface' IOS Command

Hello,

What information does the 'show buffers input-interface' IOS command provide on 'MLS' or 'CEF' enabled switches (i.e. Cat 6500s with MSFCs).

As I understand on traditional software routers (i.e. 2600, 3600, 7200, etc) this command will provide the contents of any packets sitting in the input buffer. Since every packet does NOT traverse the MSFC on MLS or CEF enabled routing engines, what buffer(s) will this command show the output for - i.e. Switch port buffers, MSFC vlan interface buffers?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

'show buffers input-interface' is not a supported command under Cat6500 native IOS. Assuming you are in hybrid mode and under the MSFC, the command is used to find out what types of packets are filling up the input queue, which would include any traffic that goes across the interface. Essentially, anything not mutli-layer switched.
