Show Port on a Cisco 5509

In doing a show port (mod/port #) on a Cisco 5509 switch I am seeing Align-err and FCS-Err 's

What would cause thie?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

a failing port at either end. a cable issue.

1. if the end device is a workstation, move it to a different port. see if the problem follows.

2. If it follows, replace the ethernet adapter, or the cable.

Check the speed and duplex settings on your switch port and on the server NIC. Best to set switch port and NIC to 100 Mb FULL-DUPLEX. You can also configure portfast if this port will only be used for an end station. (Uplink ports must never have portfast set as this can lead to STP failure and loops)

If the port is set as half/duplex this normal , if it's set as full duplex then you should not be seeing this and you may have a mismatch on one end , match both ends , switch =auto then the nic card must be set as auto . If you hardcode speed/duplex then you must hardcode the nic also .
