Simple question about IOS versions...

I know this is a relatively simple question but I need to confirm the answer.

IS an IOS 12.2(2) the same as 12.2.2, or are they different? DOes this hold true for all versions as well for PIX's ,switches, etc.?

Thanks in advance.

Yes , those are the same

When you give show version command on the router , the second line of the output shows the version as you have specified 12.2(2)

but when the IOS image is speicified, it will be specified as for example, c2500-j-l.112-18.P, here it is 11.2(18)

But if you browse through the CCO while downloading the IOS, the images will be written as 11.2.18.

In effect all give the same.

This holds good for all images
