Is it possible to have Single VLAN support multiple subnets. For Example,
Create VLAN 10 and have multiple logical subnets 172.16.10.0/24, 172.16.20.0/24, and 172.16.30.0/24 tied to it.
I always thought that one vlan can only be tied to one subnet. If it is possible that what is the advantage.

You can..Just have secondary addresses on a router's interface for each subnet. It is a good design to have separate subnet for every VLAN

You can do that, after configuring secondary addresses on your router port the subnets will communicate each to the others,
BUT youare loosing:
a) security - All devices in each subnet can see another subnets traffic
b) bandwithh and CPU load - L2 broadcasts are bothering all devices in all subnets consuming their CPU.
I know only one reason for configuring this (temporary):
Moving from one address range to a new one.
