Slow response time when logging onto server via Catalyst 4006

We have a Windows 2000 server connected to a Catalyst 4006 switch and are experiencing very slow logon times (1min 30 sec on avg) When I use a hub in the same scenario I can connect in 15 seconds on avg. I've tried placing the server on a different port and blade and still experience the same logon problems. I've also made sure the switch, workstations, and server are set to auto detect on the LAN cards. Does anyone have suggestions to correct this problem? Thanks!

Have you enabled "set port host x/y" if you are running CAT OS or "spanning-tree portfast" under the interface in question if it's an IOS based 4006?

Thanks! We're running IOS and I'll try your suggestions.

I tried configuring my Catalyst 4006, with IOS, based on the information you provided. It still takes almost two minutes to long on. Do you think I should try to load CAT OS? Could this possibly correct the problem?

You cannot run CAT OS on Sup3's. Few questions for you

What software version are you running?

Is the server and the client in the same VLAN?

Are the switch interfaces clean?

Try capturing a sniffer trace(both from client and server side) and see if you see anything out of the ordinary. You can get a free sniffer software from http://www.ethereal.com

Your problem is most likely this: "I've also made sure the switch, workstations, and server are set to auto detect on the LAN cards". Cisco switches aren;t the best at signalling or speed/duplex. Manually set your servers and switch to 100/full and I would bet that most of your problems disappear.

Let me know if this helps...
