SNMP access list

Is it possible to have an access list applied to the SNMP read string on 2900XL/3500XL Catalyst switches? We currently have an access list (2) that defines what IP addresses can telnet to the switches. Is it possible to take this access list and apply it to the SNMP read string so that only the machines that are defined on there can access that string?

Thanks for the help!

Yes, you can add a standard or extended access list to the SNMP community command eg

C3524-R-10(config)#snmp-server community public RO ?

<1-99> Std IP accesslist allowing access with this community string

<1300-1999> Expanded IP accesslist allowing access with this community

string
