snmp counter frametoolong increasing with 802.1q trunk

I have a Cat 6500 switch v7.2(2) with the snmp counter frametoolong

increasing. It was configured as dot1q trunk.

If the frame size may be too long for 802.3 standard when trunk mode, then cat6500 should take as normal or abnormal ?

Please comment.

Hi,

CCNP Training Kit eBook says:

"Original Ethernet frames cannot exceed 1518 bytes. If a frame of the maximum size is tagged with 802.1Q, the resulting frame will be 1522 bytes. This frame is called a baby giant frame. The switch processes this frame successfully, although the switch might record it as an Ethernet error."

So I think you might see baby-giant frames if there are no other error notifications.

Regards,

Milan
