SNMP logging

Would like to know why I can't receive the trap from Openview for the error message "%SYS-4-P2_WARN: 1/Invalid crc, dropped packet, count = XXXX" although my severity setting at snmp logging for sys is 4?

Thanks in advance

Re: SNMP logging

Hi,

1) Are you sure that the switch is sending a SNMP traps?

Do you have

set snmp trap enable system

or

set snmp trap enable logging?

I used to configure set snmp trap enable logging but I received all syslog messages twice - as primary syslog messages and duplicated as SNMP traps.

So I don't use set snmp trap enable logging anymore.

If you also don't, it's possible the message is sent only via syslog.

2) Another possibility is that your trapd.conf file is configured not to display these particular traps.

Have you checked with ovdumpevents that the traps are coming to your Openview machine?

Regards,

Milan
