SNMP quesiton

Hi All,

I saw one sample config to config only some information for the 3550 switch:

snmp-server engineID local 00000009020000B064386E00

snmp-server location xxx

snmp-server contact yyy

snmp-server chassis-id Catalyst 3550

but the sample config does not set the snmp community. Does it work? Because the snmp is disable by default but I don't know if the commands above will activate it. Should the "snmp-server community"command must be used when config snmp? Can anybody tell me? Thank You!

Hi

You have to set the snmp community to access the switch via snmp.

A sample below:

snmp-server community "switch3550" RO 10

!

access-list 10 permit x.x.x.x x.x.x.x
