software distrbution in a switched environment

I'm trying to install PC's with WOL and bootp. When the Client PC is connected at the same Switch as the Distribution server, the installation run fine. but if the Client is located at a different switch then the server nothing happens.

The network is a layer2 environement with all cat2924XL-EN -IOS 11.2 - switches and some VLANs (not routed) ...(yes, the client and the server are in the same VLAN...)

Are the switches blocking something by default? at least it looks like.

If the switches are in the same VLAN as the server, can you ping the server from the switch? If you can ping the server from the switch, it looks like the switches are blocking something. If you can't ping the seerver, you have a misconfiguration somehwere (check trunking config if configured).

Verify the the 'other' switch has also had portfast enabled. It could be that the distrubution server switch has this configured and the other switch does not, at the time the client is attempting to start the bootp process the switch port may still be in the listen/learn mode.

portfast is enabled on all Ports connecting hosts
