Sonet APS configuration question

We are trying to get sonet aps running on one link.

there are 2 oc-3 interfaces per router on the link.

So our working on pos 4/1 would be protected by pos 4/2.

1. Will this work ?

2 In the aps protect statement, would you use the address of the of the "other " pos interface ?

What is your platform? There are some odd/even card/port number rules. The other is port number of the other POS on this router.

Thanks.

pair of 7606's connected with oc-3

the pos stuff is in slot 4. so, ports pos1 thru 4

are available.

as configed right now pos 4/1 was working, pos 4/2 was protect.

7606's running 12.1.13e4 one card of sonet (oc-3).

the original config had the working on pos4/1 and protect on 4/2

For the router APS features (which differ from APS than say, the transport/optical products or some of the different platform specific varieties) you point the ip address of the loopback on the router where the protect lives. Always point it at the loopback. So, if you have W and P in the same router, then the protect statement would point to your own loopback ip address.

This will work, however it will not give you card protection, or chassis protection - only circuit and port level protection.

Hope this helps -steve

Steve,

thats how we configured it. DO you configure APS on both ends of the path ? (Near and far end ?)

You must have at least 'aps working ' on both sides.

Thanks.
