Will I face any problems monitoring 1 Gbps ports from a 100Mbps port ? Will lose any packet ?
What is the threshold for runts, what is the cause of them ?

You will have problems if your data traffic exceeds that of your monitor port in that you'll not see all the data. It will be dropped if the outgoing port cannot handle the data flow. If your data is not over the limits of your monitor port you will loose no data.
Runt is a packet that is smaller than the minimum packet size (64 bytes). Faulty NICs can be a potential cause and other physical imperfections.
Hope this helps you,
Don
