SPAN issue with Catalyst 4000

I configure the following:

set span 11 3/16

so traffic from VLAN 11 is copied to port 3/16. As far as I understand, PC connected to port 3/16 does not recieve packets sent directly to him (in oder words, you can not ping this PC from another station) unless you enable inpkts option on span command. But, in my case, I still can ping the PC connected to destination port.

Any explanation, or do I get SPAN incorectly?

On the second Catalyst 4000, if I configure the same thing, I can not ping PC connected to port 3/16, as I expected.
