SPAN problem on Cat 4506

We were configuring SPAN on a 4506 switch using the "monitor session" command. After configuring, found that the destination port shows the status as Line Protocol down (monitoring) and lost the connectivity to the end system. We took out the monitor session commands and the port came up. We are running IOS version 12.1(12c)EW1. We saw the same behaviour on 2 switches. Any clue ??? Thanks in advance.

Your 4506 is behaving as expected (well, at least as documented).

When doing SPAN on C4K Sup3 or Sup4, incoming traffic is disabled on the destination interface.
