spaningtrtee port fast

Hi

when i enabled the Spanningtree port fast;i received the following msg"spanning-tree portfast

%Warning: portfast should only be enabled on ports connected to a single

host. Connecting hubs, concentrators, switches, bridges, etc... to this

interface when portfast is enabled, can cause temporary bridging loops.

Use with CAUTION

%Portfast has been configured on GigabitEthernet0/8 but will only

have effect when the interface is in a non-trunking mode.

this msg affect what in the port.why its appear?

HI

This is a message which is generated when u enable portfast on a interface.this is just a informal message.portfast feature is used to skip the STP process of blocking,listening and learning.when u enable portfast on a interface it directly moves in forwarding mode.

U should enable portfast on interfaces to which only end stations are connected i.e server,workstations,printers etc.

U should not enable it on trunk ports or ports to which other switches are connected as it may cause loops in u r network.
