Spanning Tree question for Cat3500

Hi,

I would like to know why we can change spanning tree settings of different/specific Vlan under interface configuration mode.

e.g:

interface FastEthernet0/20

switchport access vlan 200

spanning-tree vlan 300 port-priority 10

What is the purpose of this command ?

Thanks in advance.

Rgds,

Ivan Cheng

Re: Spanning Tree question for Cat3500

In the event of a loop, spanning tree considers port priority when selecting an interface to put into the forwarding state. You can assign higher priority values to interfaces that you want spanning tree to select first and lower priority values to interfaces that you want spanning tree to select last.

IOS uses the port priority value when the interface is configured as an access port and uses VLAN port priority values when the interface is configured as a trunk port. So "spanning-tree vlan 300 port-priority 10 " will have efffect only if you trunk on this port
