spanning tree

Can anyone please tell me if spanning tree runs on routers ?

No it does not. But it run on layer 3 switches.

Cisco routers can bridge between L3 interfaces (and sub-interfaces) using bridge-groups. You will be able to run STP on bridge-groups (even DEC and IBM compatible STP protocols;-)). Except for some few platforms that can run RSTP on bridge groups, only regular STP is supported under the protocol name "ieee" (MST is almost impossible without the knowledge of vlans).
