Specifically the 8510csr and gigabit

Hell-o,

Attempting to set an interface on our 8510csr to gigabit per the documentation.

Running ios 12.0. The ios does not recognize the gigabitethernet command? Yet the doc says just enter in global config mode the following;

router (config)# interface gigabitethernet 1/0/1

Do I not have the gigabit line module? I thought a fastehternet module could be configured for gigabit?

We are pulling a separate fiber line to a Macintosh lab area with a lot of graphic traffic and wanted to provide them with a gigabit connection if possible. If this is not possible, any suggestions?

TIA

Gary

If you do not have a gigabit module, youll not be able to configure a Fastethernet module as gigabit.

Do a "show hardware" or even a sh ver should tell you what interfaces you have in your 8510
