I've all ports on my Cat4000s configured set port speed .... auto. But when a new device (PC) is connected to the port and the speed detected is different from the speed it was before (10Mbps instead of 100Mbps) the switch config is changing itself!!
set spantree portcost .... mst
set spantree portinstancecost ..... mst
set spantree portcost
set spantree portvlancost
lines in config are changed.
I'm running CatOS 7.2(1).
I don't understand
a) why MST parameters are being changed while the switch is running STP in PVST+ mode,
b) I wouldn't expect any switch changing it's own config. My understanding was that any config change should be done by an administrator, not by a device (this is the way it works on IOS). I'm trying to setup an automatic config change detection by Ciscoworks2000 but these changes are confusing my system.
This sounds strange. I haven't experienced something like this before. I agree with you that any config change should be done by an administrator, not by a device. You could check for bugs related to Cat OS and might be able to find something. Has anyone else encountered anything like this? Might help us find the solution.
