Stacking and spanning tree how to count?

Hi,

We have some 3500xl stacks with 6 switches in it. I want to add a 7th switch in these stack. For as stack that is the maximum but the stack are connected to a coure switch (6509). For spanning tree I have to count te number of switch layers in my network. The maximum for the default times is 7 would adding a extra switch in the stack of 6 be calculated as 8 switching layers for spanning tree?

Yes, form STP point of view a 3500xl stack behaves the same way as non-stacked switches (there is a difference comparing to the new 3700 line).

There should be no real big difference between network diameter 7 and 8.

I've got network diameter 9 in my network now without any problems.

But it's a good aproach to design your network with the diameter as smal as possible.

Regards,

Milan
