Static Routes & Def Gateway on Cat4k

Do I need to have a static route setup for each and every VLAN I have configured in oreder to get to the outside/web etc? Or, can I configure:

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 [next-hop-address]

the next hop is a directly connected PIX into a 10/100 port on the Cat4k in a VLAN.

If you just have one gateway, you need to just set one route

Re: Static Routes & Def Gateway on Cat4k

default route is installed in the routing table, it doesn't pertain to a certain vlan.

you need only one default route in this case. I assume you have Sup3 for cat4k

You can probably specifiy the next hop being a certain vlan interface but it is not recommended.

If you have sup2, the default gateway is for management purpose only ..not for user traffic.
