static routes don' t dissappear.

I have a 7200 with channelized t3. I have static routes pointing to the far end of the T1 link. When the T1 link goes down the static routes don't go away.

Re: static routes don' t dissappear.

Static routes are directly bound to the outbound interface status not the next hop. So, if the interface goes down/down then the static will be pulled. If you have "permanent" on the end of your static this will override this behavior and it will never go away. There is a feature, that uses CDP, that will verify next hop reachability. Here's a link describing set ip next-hop verify-availability .

Hope this helps,

Watch your default route. If your static route uses next hop instead of interface, your next-hop maybe resolved by your default route. It is always a good idea to define both the next hop and interface in your static route statement. Good luck.
