storm control settings

We are looking at enabling storm control on 3524XL-EN & 3550-24 switches. The 3524 uses rising & falling packets per second whereas the 3550 uses % utilisation.

From Cisco documentation, the 3524 default settings are:

Rising Thresholds 500 broadcast pps 2500 multicast pps

Falling Thresholds 250 broadcast pps 1200 multicast pps

Are the 3524 defaults OK?

What do you suggest for the 3550?

I guess the default values can be used for the 3524 if it is just for preventing storms caused due to faulty hardware. But, if you want to tune this, you need to benchmark your network by observing the amount of broadcasts that is present in your network under normal condition and then use that value.
