StormControl 6500

Hi,

We have a test lab with a 6509 with Sup720-3B for testing StormControl.

We have a 6148 RJ45 10/100 Blade with two hosts connected on the same vlan.

Test 1- Generating unicast traffic up to 80 % between the two hosts does not impact processor performance. No StormControl Settings applied.

Test2- Generate 99% Broadcast traffic from one host. Processor on 6500 hits 99%. No StormControl commands

Test3- Generate 99% Multicast traffic from one host. Processor o 6500 hits 99%

No Storm Control commands.

Test4- Generate 99% Broadcast traffic with storm-control broadcast level 15

Switch processor hits 20%

Test5- Generate 99% Multicast traffic with storm-control multicast level 15

Switch processor still hits 99%

Is there a reason why the 6500 doesnt have the capability to report a storm either as a log message or a trap.

Is it prefered to use Qos for this purpose instead of Stormcontrol or a combination of both?

Re: StormControl 6500

We can use QOS for this purpose,it will give good results compared to stormcontrol.
