I have changed my old switch in my network by some news cisco the surprise has been when it has an alert and some ports has been blocked telling:

"this port is blocked by spanning tree protocol"

Then the pings to the swich has get values very large..

Anybody knows Which is the problem? How can I fix it?

regards

Hi

what this maybe is that the switch you have just taken out was the root switch, this is where every port on that switch only forwards and never blocks,so now another switch has been made root !! It looks like there has been some convergence and the traffic could be now using a different path .

Looks like you have a layer2 potential loop problem, so, spanning tree is acting.

I'd advise you to check more information about this protocol and its use.
