Hi,
We have a Cisco 3550 EMI running layer 3 ( OSPF , static routing, HSRP )
The cpu is constantly running around 25-30% even when idle.
This process is the bad guy :
CPU utilization for five seconds: 28%/0%
3436 27.01% 27.92% 27.92% 0 VegasPM
Anyone know what this is ?

The VegasPM process manages the Gigastack GBIC operation on the switch. As each GBIC is inserted, the CPU jumps between 4-6% for each additional GBIC. This is even without the GBIC having any cabling connected. Ultimately, it is a hardware design limitation. However, this does not affect switch performance or traffic forwarding whatsoever.
